The Electronic Building Identity (or electronic building certificate) is a digital record that outlines the key characteristics and technical specifications of a building. It is designed to document and monitor information related to construction, maintenance, and energy performance, while also ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
In Greece, the Electronic Building Identity is mandatory and must be issued for every new building or major renovation. It includes information such as:
- Construction characteristics: such as building type, structural materials, and usage (e.g., residential, commercial, office space).
- Energy performance: energy classification, CO₂ emissions, and heating/cooling systems.
- Safety and structural integrity: inspection records related to construction quality and safety conditions.
- Regulatory compliance: confirmation that the building meets all legal requirements for construction and operation (e.g. earthquake protection, fire safety, accessibility).
- Maintenance and renovations: a history of repairs and renovation work.
